We recently had a great conversation with Mercy about her experience using Skillfix services—specifically our CV writing and LinkedIn profile optimization. She was on a mission to stand out in the job market, and it was exciting to hear how the process helped her feel more confident, polished, and ready to take on new opportunities. Here is her story
1. Can you briefly introduce yourself and your professional background?
My name is Mercy Mbogo, and I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Systems. Over the past 7+ years, I have gained hands-on experience in diverse roles including IT Service and Helpdesk Support, Call Center Operations, and Administrative Support. My background is rooted in providing efficient client solutions, managing systems, and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations within fast-paced environments.
2. What made you decide to seek help with your CV and LinkedIn profile?
Honestly, my CV looked more like a programmer’s technical manual than a professional snapshot—it was lengthy, overly technical, and lacked visual appeal 😅. I needed a transformation—something that would not only look modern and engaging but also highlight my skills and experiences in a compelling way to attract the right opportunities.
3. How did you come across Skillfix International?
Back in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, I lost my side hustle which involved transporting children to and from a Montessori school in Kilimani, Nairobi. With schools closed and income halted, I began reflecting on my career and wondering what to do next. During this uncertain time, someone added me to the Skillfix WhatsApp Group. I stayed quietly in the background for a while—observing and learning—and that’s how my journey with Skillfix began.
4. What specific challenges were you facing with your CV or LinkedIn before working with Skillfix?
Despite having over 7 years of solid work experience, my CV did not reflect my value. It lacked structure, had no professional branding, and didn’t position me strongly in the job market. My LinkedIn profile was also underutilized—I didn’t know how to make it work for me in terms of visibility or networking. I realized I needed expert help to align my profile with current market expectations.
5. How was your experience during the process of working with the Skillfix team?
It was very interesting and supportive. Mr. Wambugu (The C.E.O) offered me a friendly one-year package, which allowed my CV to be tailored specifically for the different jobs I applied for. That flexibility made a huge difference and helped me stay confident throughout my job search journey.
6. What improvements did you notice in your CV and LinkedIn profile after the service?
The difference was night and day. I began receiving interview calls almost immediately—my phone, which had been quiet for so long, suddenly came alive. It was such a relief to know I was finally being seen.
7. Have you seen any positive results or feedback since the revamp?
Absolutely! My LinkedIn profile, which barely had any traffic before, started attracting a lot of profile views. That visibility alone boosted my confidence and opened up new networking opportunities I hadn't anticipated.
8. What would you say was the most valuable part of the service you received?
Surprisingly, LinkedIn also brought new leads to my small business page, which I'm nurturing slowly. And out of all that visibility, I landed a part-time job with a car imports and sales company. That wouldn’t have happened without the Skillfix profile revamp.
9. How do you feel about your professional image now compared to before?
I feel much more confident and comfortable; especially during interviews. I now walk into rooms knowing that my CV and profile represent me well, and that makes all the difference.
10. What advice would you give to someone who is considering using Skillfix services but hasn’t made the move yet?
Honestly, if you're still waiting; you're wasting time. Enroll. Even just taking one of the coaching courses can completely open up your mind. Skillfix is not just about CVs; it's about helping you see yourself and your career differently.
